Samsung Galaxy Note 7 with 6GB RAM and 128GB Storage Gets Certified by TENAA

When the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was finally unveiled by Samsung this past week, a lot of people were disappointed by the lack of upgraded internals. Most called the Note 7 as a Galaxy S7 Edge with a stylus, and they weren’t quite wrong.

There isn’t too much differentiation internally between the two, with Samsung still choosing numbers that others in the flagship race had ran past. Performance-wise, flagships launched in the first half of 2016 are identical to the flagship launched in the second half of 2016, and this disappoints the number-crunchers.

If you belong to this group of people that wanted something more from the Samsung Galaxy 7, then Samsung has heard you. At least those of you in China, as a “better” Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has just passed through China’s certification authority, TENAA. This variant of the device (labelled SM-N9300) bears specs unlike the other released Note 7. There’s 6GB of RAM on the device, coupled with 128GB of internal storage!

On the outside and everything else, this is the same Galaxy Note 7 that the rest of the world sees (except that the front logo seems to be missing, which is a small plus). On the inside, the difference is the addition of RAM and storage, as these are the only parts mentioned in the TENAA listing that differ from the previous listing of the device.

Is this a leak or a rumor? No. Since this information flows from China’s regulatory authority TENAA (much like the FCC in the USA), it means that the device exists and is on the way to reach consumers. The question isn’t IF it it exists, the question is when will it launch in China. Will this device make it out of China? That is also a question that remains unanswered, but it is likely that Samsung releases this variant a few months down the line with an even higher price tag. We guess that a bit after the new iPhone announcement may be a good point to steal attention back to themselves. It’s also worth noting that the Chinese market is known for having the aforementioned number-cruncher mindset when it comes to phones, always wanting bigger and better specs. So from a business standpoint, it makes sense even if it makes all of us outside China a little jealous. For now, the rest of the world has to remain content with their 4GB RAM variants.
