On September 15, Qualcomm announced Quick Charge 3.0 would be coming alongside the Snapdragon 820, 620, 618, 617 and 430 next year. They stated that with QC 3.0 you can expect to charge “a typical” devices from zero to 80% in about 35 minutes. Now Aukey has released their first officially compatible charger with the technology.
These chargers cannot of course charge devices without QC3.0 tech to their maximum potential, however, can offer a more granular range of voltages in 200mV increments from 3.6V to 20V. This is designed to allow the phone to request the correct voltage to reach the desired charge current, this should result in lower voltage losses, improved efficiency, and an overall increase in thermal performance. QC 3.0 technology and chargers are backwards compatible and work with both micro and USB type C.
The chargers themselves (featured right) are of solid build quality and charged a QC2.0 device from 0 – 80% just 2 minutes faster than the OEM charger provided which could be down to any number of factors. It is worth noting that due to the speed with which they have had the chips changed and shipped they for the time being will be shipping with the labels on stickers as opposed to the final printed versions which should start appearing shortly.
